Towards the design of efficient metal free ORR catalysts based on Zeolite Templated Carbons

Carbon and carbon/nitrogen Zeolite Templated Carbons (C-ZTC CN-ZTC) were synthesized from pure ethylene acetonitrile precursors thoroughly characterized by nitrogen physisorption at 77 K, SEM, XRD, TGA, Raman spectroscopy XPS. The CN-ZTC presented high content (C/N = 12.5) a less condensed skeleton compared to C-ZTC. Reduced micropore volume of was observed due the formation extra-ZTC graphene-like species on external surface, leading electron conductivity. preparation based catalysts allowed for achieving conspicuously ORR activity, featuring half-wave potential 0.81 V vs. RHE hydroxyl selectivity.
